What cookies?
A cookie is a tiny piece of text that a website puts on your device so it can remember a thing. The Grotto uses cookies sparingly. Here is the full list.
The cookies we set
- gsg_cookies_accepted — set when you click "Accept" on the cookie banner. Lifespan: one year. Purpose: stop showing you the banner. No personal information.
- gsg_newsletter_subscribers (localStorage, not technically a cookie) — a local-only copy of newsletter sign-ups submitted from your device. Stays on your device unless you clear browser storage.
- gsg_contact_messages (localStorage) — same as above, for messages sent through the contact form. Local only.
- session cookies — set by the web server when you visit the site. Used only to keep the page loading correctly. Deleted when you close the tab.
Cookies we don't set
- No advertising cookies.
- No tracking cookies of any kind.
- No third-party cookies from Google, Meta, X, or anyone else.
- No fingerprinting.
How to turn them off
Every modern browser lets you block or delete cookies for a specific site. You can do that for the Grotto and the site will still work — you'll just have to dismiss the cookie banner each time you visit.
